Island Home-Girl

I've been hunched over my keyboard for weeks (on and off) looking for inspiration to create my dream bathroom and kitchen.  HGTV only goes so far in Jamaica, especially when you've got more dreams than dollars.

This house has been a work in progress ever since we moved on Easter Sunday.  I went through a couple of months living with a dirt floor and behind plywood walls while structural repairs were made to the front of my house.

The main bathroom was the first space in the house that I tackled.  I've learned the art of looking and living large for less.  $3,000 worth of glass mosaic tiles and a counter-top made of a remnant of granite (a whopping $11,000, including fabrication!) gave the bathroom a finished, million-dollar look (check out the before and after pictures).

I've also tried to make my house universal in design, so there are no steps or stairs to get into the house and I've put in curb-less showers and wide doorways.  This way, I can live in this house until I die.

I'm now on the hunt for my dream kitchen - I love to cook and have family and friends over and have nowhere in my 'new' old house that allows me to express my culinary talents freely.  The space that I'm thinking of for putting my kitchen is about 225 sq. ft., with high ceilings and great possibilities.

But more anon...
